Art Cram

Check out this post on self-portrait artists from Coilhouse.
I picked up a copy of Hi-Fructose Vol. 14 today, and some of my favorite features from it were on these artists:
In the interview, Lola says:
This past year has been quite a journey. So many ups and downs, a heartbreak, a big spacious move, three knights in shining armor, and all along the way, enlightenment, which is helping me to find true balance. The clarity is this weird sort of silent space, yet it has influenced my work like a roller coaster.
This work is methodically stimulated by a deep subconscious and somehow chooses its own relatable imagery from inside me….There is so much heart and feeling which goes into the work that it almost feels like I’m composing a song without words. I never think of strategy or how to confuse a viewer; in fact, I’m almost not thinking of the viewer until the piece is completed. I paint everything I must for my own mental survival. I’m only fortunate that I can share these works in my lifetime, and lucky that anyone feels they can relate and are drawn enough to be inspired and motivated…
Her bio on her site says that “Lola continues to evolve with a brave and elegant grace, exploring interests in self-awareness, nurturing, humanity, science and nature, music, literature, and other outer-worldly curiosities.”
What I love about Lola besides her art is that she seems like a beautiful soul; she sounds much more genuine than some other artists.

I love Brian M. Viveros! His work features tough, defiant dames with a cigarette eternally jutting from the corner of their lips in a “dirtyland” atmosphere of dark sensuality, abuse, and tainted innocence. These girls are erotic, corrupted, possibly pained, yet brazen and brave and graceful.

He’s also made two pieces depicting Louise Brooks!:
